At the time I didn’t realize how long and challenging that road of deconstruction was going to be, nor how much it would impact my relationship and life with my wife, Lisa. It was a long and hard journey and I was surprised at how many things Lisa and I had to work on together to make it through.
How could we still love each other despite having very different beliefs?
Would we still go to church?
What were we going to tell our friends?
How would we raise our children?
Are we still going to pray before meals?
Fortunately, Lisa and I really loved each other and we chose to lean in and navigate through all of the challenges. We got support from coaches, therapists, and the community we still had, and we learned how to communicate through the shifting culture within our marriage and family.
We learned so much along the way and I’m happy to say that our marriage actually became much stronger through our process of deconstruction… albeit very challenging and uncertain at times.
We’ve been married for over 40 years now, we still love and enjoy each other's company deeply, and I’ve been able to support so many other people in their relationships through deconstruction. We’ve also raised our children in such a way that as adults they still all want to spend time with us and go on vacations together.
Now, I’ve personally counseled over one thousand couples in person, supported countless others online through my teachings, and become really good at supporting relationships through shifting beliefs.
After the success of my “Til Doubt Do Us Part” book, a lot of questions online and a demand for more structured support, I’ve taken everything I’ve learned, witnessed and experienced, and I’ve put it into a brand new course, Love Beyond Belief. When you go through the course you’ll discover the tools, strategies and the process to save your relationship while losing your religion…
